Which calculator do you need?
Find your question in the left column. The tool that answers it sits on the right.
| Your question | Use this |
|---|---|
| "I have my scores. What is my grade?" | Grade Calculator |
| "My syllabus has categories with different weights." | Weighted Grade Calculator |
| "What do I need on the final to get a B?" | Final Grade Calculator |
| "If I score 78 on the final, what do I end with?" | Final Exam Calculator |
| "I got 6 wrong out of 40. What is that?" | Test & Exam Grade Calculator |
| "What is my GPA across all my courses?" | GPA Calculator |
| "What is my GPA for this semester only?" | Semester GPA Calculator |
| "What is the average of these scores?" | Grade Average Calculator |
| "What percentage is 43 out of 50?" | Grade Percentage Calculator |
| "Is an 88% a B or a B+?" | Letter Grade Calculator |
Two pairs trip people up most often. The Final Grade and Final Exam calculators run in opposite directions — one solves for the score you need, the other for the grade a score produces. The GPA and Semester GPA calculators differ the same way: one covers your whole record, the other covers one term.
The ten calculators
Working out a course grade
Grade Calculator — Enter what you earned and what each assignment was out of. Returns your percentage, your letter grade, and the score you need on the work still to come. Start here if your course has no category weights.
Weighted Grade Calculator — For courses where homework is 20%, the midterm is 30% and the final is 50%. Handles weights that do not add up to 100%, and relative weights like 2, 3 and 5 instead of percentages. Also shows the average you need on everything still ungraded.
Grade Average Calculator — Averages a list of scores and returns the mean, the weighted mean, the median and the distribution. Use it when you want to see the shape of your results, not just one number.
Finals and exams
Final Grade Calculator — You know the grade you want and need to know what the final must score. Returns the required percentage for every letter grade at once, so you can see which grades are still reachable and which are gone.
Final Exam Calculator — The reverse. Enter a score you expect on the final and see the course grade it produces, with a what-if table for other scores.
Test & Exam Grade Calculator — Built for marking a single test. Enter the number of questions and how many were wrong, and it returns the percentage and letter grade. Supports negative marking and a raw-marks mode, and includes a grading chart for teachers marking a stack of papers.
GPA
GPA Calculator — Your GPA across courses and terms, including cumulative GPA. Supports 4.0 and 4.33 scales, Australian 7-point and 4-point scales, and weighted Honors, AP and IB courses.
Semester GPA Calculator — One term at a time. Enter this semester's courses, credits and expected grades to see where the term is heading before grades are posted.
Converting scores and grades
Grade Percentage Calculator — Converts a score into a percentage and the letter grade it earns, converts a target percentage back into the points you need, and shows how much a new grade moved your average.
Letter Grade Calculator — Converts between percentages and letters on any supported scale, with the full grading chart alongside. Use it when the question is about the scale itself rather than one score.
What I changed after building these
I built these calculators after using the ones already online and running into the same four problems on nearly every site.
Rounding is never explained. A student finishing on 89.5% cannot find out whether that is a B+ or an A−, because every tool rounds silently and none of them say which way. The answer depends on a policy in the syllabus, not on arithmetic. So rounding here is a setting you control, and when a score lands on a boundary the result says so in plain words rather than picking one answer and hiding the other.
Weights that do not total 100% break most calculators. Half a semester in, only some categories have grades. Syllabi also express weights as ratios — a final that "counts twice as much as a midterm" — instead of percentages. Most tools either reject this or return a wrong number without warning. The weighted calculator here divides by the total of the weights you entered, which keeps the answer correct in both cases.
Everything assumes an American scale. An 85% is a solid B in the United States and a first-class result in the United Kingdom. Tools that hard-code one scale hand incorrect letter grades to anyone outside it. Every calculator here lets you switch between US, UK, Canadian and Australian scales, or build your own and keep it.
"You need 104%" arrives with no explanation. When a target grade becomes mathematically impossible, most final grade calculators return the number and stop. That number means the grade is gone, and the useful next step is knowing which grade is still reachable. So the final grade calculator shows every letter grade at once, not just the one you asked about.
None of this is complicated to build. It simply does not get built, because the tools that already rank do not need to improve to keep ranking.
Grading scales you can use
Every calculator on this site shares one scale setting. Change it once and it applies wherever you go next.
| Scale | Covers |
|---|---|
| US letter with ± | A+ through F, 4.0 and 4.33 GPA points |
| US letter, no ± | The simple ten-point scale |
| UK undergraduate | First, 2:1, 2:2, Third |
| Canada | Percentage to letter |
| Australia | HD, D, C, P, F — plus 7-point and 4-point GPA |
| Custom | Build and save your own bands |
Institutions vary even within one country, so check your syllabus before relying on any default. If your school uses bands none of these match, the custom scale editor takes about a minute to set up and is remembered on your next visit.
Common questions
Are these calculators free?
Yes, all ten. There is no account, no sign-up, no limit on how many times you use them.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is shared.
Which calculator should I use if my course has weighted categories?
The Weighted Grade Calculator. The plain Grade Calculator treats every point equally, which gives the wrong answer as soon as your syllabus assigns different weights.
Can teachers use these?
Yes. The Test & Exam Grade Calculator includes a grading chart for marking a set of papers, and every calculator supports custom scales, which is usually what a teacher needs first.
Do they work on a phone?
Yes. Every calculator is built for a phone screen first and works offline once the page has loaded.
Ali Rehman — Founder, AR Digitals I built and maintain these calculators. If your school's grading scheme breaks one of them, or a result looks wrong, tell me — I would rather fix it than have you second-guess a grade. Published: [date] · Last updated: [Sep/2026]
