How this calculator works
GPA (grade point average) converts each course grade to grade points, weights them by the course credits, and averages them.
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
Example on the 4.0 scale: A (4.0) in a 4-credit course, B+ (3.3) in a 3-credit course and B (3.0) in a 3-credit course: (16 + 9.9 + 9) ÷ 10 = 3.49.
To include earlier semesters, enter your current cumulative GPA and credits: cumulative GPA = (old GPA × old credits + new grade points) ÷ (old credits + new credits). GPA scales are not universal — US colleges mostly use 4.0 (some 4.33), many Australian universities use a 7-point scale, and UK universities generally use degree classifications instead of GPA. Check which scale your institution uses.
